چکیده

Expert systems have demonstrated commercial viability in a wide range of applications, but still face some obstacles to widespread use. A major stumbling block is the lack of well-defined verification and validation (V&V) techniques. The primary difficulty with expert system V&V is the use of development methodologies which do not support V&V. As with conventional code, the key to effective V&V is the development methodology. This paper describes an expert system development methodology based upon a panel review approach which allows input from all parties concerned with the expert system. Validation and Vertfication of Expert Systems

Validation and verification (V&V) are procedures used to evaluate system structure or behavior with respect to a set of requirements. Although expert systems are often developed as a series of prototypes without requirements, it is not possible to perform V&V on any system for which requirements have not been prepared. In addition, there are special problems associated with the evaluation of ex...

Refinement of the HEPAR expert system: tools and techniques

Methods and tools for the static and dynamic verification and validation of software systems are commonplace in the field of software engineering. In the field of expert systems, where it is more difficult to ensure that a system meets the specifications and expectations than in traditional software engineering, such tools are generally not available. In this paper, the need for more support of...

System-Level Modeling and Verification: a Comprehensive Design Methodology

Working at system level is attracting increasing interest, as it supports the exploration of several alternatives, before the hardware/software partitioning takes place. New issues must be taken into account, such as validation and verification at all steps. This paper presents a system-level design methodology that supports description, validation, and verification at system-level.

From Behavioral Specification to Axiomatic Description of Real-Time Reactive Systems

Formal verification of time-dependent properties is crucial in the development of real-time reactive systems for safety-critical applications. Systems modeled in UML (Unified Modeling Language) result in graphic descriptions of the static structure and dynamic behavior of a system and its components. Generating a formal specification from the UML models supports rigorous techniques for validati...
